Mini Owl Treat Box

A couple of weeks ago, I posted this project  http://jhurley90.blogspot.com/2013/01/owl-valentines-treat-holder.html and had a friend of mine contact me that she LOVED it and if I would make some for her daughter's Valentines party.  I told her they were pretty big for elementary age treats(that project was nearly 6x6 when assembled) and it would be more cost effective for her to go with a smaller one. So, I set out to see if I could do it, ( I always am up for a challenge) and knowing how easy that the Heart Framelits make things so much easier, it was only a matter of making the inside treat holder a different size..EASY PEASY! So all I did was use the 3rd largest heart in the die set, and cut two of them out of Cherry Cobbler and handle.  I used the next size smaller and cut out a  Sahara Sand heart for an extra layer. For the center "pocket", I cut a 2x4 inch piece of Cherry Cobbler, scored it at 2" on the short side, and 1/2" on each long side, then cut at the 2" score into the 1/2" score and folded it to make a "V" shape and then glued each side to one of the hearts.  For the owl, I cut a 1 3/4" Circle of Cherry Cobbler, then ran some Pink Pirouette through the  Adorning Accents Folder(hearts) and then punched it out with the 1 3/4" circle and then put it back into the punch to round it to fit onto the front of the owl (looks like a football shape).  I then cut out feet using the Owl Punch and Tangerine Tango cardstock and glued to the back of the owl. I used the 1/2" and 1/4" circle punches for the eyes and a corner of the Tangerine for the nose. I finished the girl ones off with Wild Wasabi flowers punched using the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and a Basic Rhinestone in the center. I stamped the sentiment using the That's the Ticket stamp set found in the Spring Mini and punching it out using the Ticket Punch.
(ETA: I had originally made the sucker treat holders with the owls on them and she really liked the heart holders, so we went ahead and did the girl and boy owls for the heart holders.)

Fancy Favor Owl Box

I saw a project similar to this in my search for treat boxes, and so I switched the colors and design around a bit to make it my own. I used the Fancy Favor treat box and cut Pool Party cardstock to make the body and assembled the box and added a handle.  Then it was on to the face and body. I started by cutting a strip of More Amore DSP (Spring Mini) using my Tasteful Trim die and cutting it down to the appropriate length for each layer of the "feathers". I punched out two eyes from Primrose Petals cardstock using the 1 1/4  " Scallop Circle punch(Spring Mini catalog-carryover )and then the whites and eyeballs are punched out using the 1" and1/2" circle punches.  I added a "gleam" in her eye by drawing them in with the Signo Gel Pen.  I snipped off a piece of Tangerine Tango for the beak.  I thought she needed some wings, so I punched out  a 1 3/4" Scalloped Circle from Primrose Petals cardstock and trimmed it in half, tucked it under the feathers and glued. For her bow, I used a tiny flower from the Paper Daiseys pack and added a Glimmer Brad from the Soft Subtles collection. I finished it off by adding a  Rasperberry Ripple bow to the handle.
